Theoretical and experimental investigation, and numerical modeling of human visual acuity

Cataract surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures, during which the patient’s crystalline lens, which has become opaque due to increased light scattering, is replaced with an artificial IntraOcular Lens (IOL). Researchers are developing new solutions to provide more comfortable visual experience for cataract patients than achievable with currently available products. To this end, besides the objective optical and mechanical parameters of the eye, the entire visual train has to be modeled to determine the vision quality as observed by a human subject. Ophthalmologists quantify this subjective vision quality by the visual acuity value.
