Employee spotlight: 12 questions with Esteban Carbajal

This month, meet Senior Optomechanical Engineer Esteban Carbajal, a key member of the LensMechanix team who loves solving problems for customers.

Briefly describe what you do all day.
I design and test new features in LensMechanix. I help customers use the software and answer questions for them. In addition, I teach the LensMechanix training course and make webinars to help showcase the software. I also research new problems that Zemax can solve. -
What’s the best thing about your job?
I get to design cool things and I don’t even have to code them myself! I write out a plan and then I see my ideas come to life. -
What’s the best thing about Zemax?
Working with other Zemaxers. -
What does your workspace look like?
My lowly cubicle has a lot of 3D printed parts and coffee cups. -
What’s been one of your proudest moments working at Zemax?
Seeing customers’ excitement when we solve their problems. I go to tradeshows and someone will say, “It would be cool if your software did this.” I get to show them that we provide exactly what they’re looking for. -
What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
Hiking, skiing, being outdoors -
