Employee spotlight: 17 questions with Romain Elleboode

This month, meet Romain Elleboode, Strategic Account Manager for Zemax UK.

  1. Briefly describe what you do all day.
My role is to represent Zemax with my customers and represent my customers internally. I am the link between the two organisations. My role also means to engage with customers at different level of their organisation to understand their challenges in Optics and in their processes. I will then be an advisor to share the best practices from the industry. Finally, my objective to is share Zemax vision towards Virtual Prototyping.

  2. What’s the best thing about your job?
Meeting customers and understanding how they work. I find that people are usually excited to describe what they do, and it becomes an opportunity to discover their potential problem that we can resolve. I also love the “positive stress and pressure” when the customer has to decide to work with us. It is rewarding when a customer trusts me as a partner to improve his job and activity.

  3. What’s the best thing about Zemax?
I’m new to Zemax but so far, I love to see the engagement of everyone. Whether we are miles away or next to each other in the office, everybody is available for support. Coming from a large organization, I was looking to find this type of spirit and approach. Even the CEO get involved with customers wishes.

  4. What does your workspace look like?
I have two different workspaces between the office and home. I tried to spend as much time in the office as possible to learn from my colleagues. At the office, I sit next to colleagues who’ve helped me with onboarding training with CRM and other tools.

  5. Who is one of your role models and why?
My dad is probably my personal and professional role model. He worked in a totally different environment, but he taught me professionalism, respect, and courage. He decided to leave his job in a bank 20 years ago to move to a smaller organization and a different job that he really enjoyed—and taught me that it is important to do something you like.

  6. What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
