Resolving Computer Crashes Related to Parallel keys and Docking Stations

SymptomAfter undocking/redocking laptop, computer crashes when attempting to launch ZEMAX.

Note that this problem only occurs with the obsolete parallel port type keys!

Solution 1:  The recommended solution is to convert your parallel key to USB type.  For details on exchanging your key for a USB type, please click here.

Solution 2:  First make sure the latest version of the key driver is installed from our updates page:  www.zemax.com/updates.  If installation instructions are needed, click here.

The symptom above only occurs if you have a parallel type ZEMAX key plugged into the docking station rather than the laptop.  To prevent the computer from crashing upon launching ZEMAX, perform the following:

Launch SeteupSyssDriver.exe found under C:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel System Driver.

Click on “Configure Driver”

Configure Driver

Highlight the ECP port and choose the "Edit" button.

Under “Port OwnerShip Method,” uncheck all boxes.  Then hit the OK button in the upper right hand corner.

Configure Port

Say OK to the warning message and select OK in the Sentinel Driver window to accept the changes:

Reboot your computer.  Undocking/redocking your laptop should no longer conflict with the parallel port key.
